Job Title: Custodian/Maintenance Helper
Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing excellent custodial and maintenance services to ensure a clean, safe, well-maintained, comfortable, and efficient work environment for AEA leadership, members, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Regular and punctual attendance is paramount
- General custodial duties. This will involve both scheduled tasks, such as daily trash removal, and as-needed assignments. It also includes but is not limited to, cleaning, sanitizing, and stocking restrooms and kitchens; vacuuming, mopping, or otherwise cleaning floors; and ensuring building security.
- Perform minor repairs, painting, and other building maintenance when needed or directed and promptly report the need for major repairs to the Operations Manager.
- Assist maintenance and Print Shop employees when needed.
- Assist in lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture and setting up facilities for programs and meetings as required.
- Provide switchboard relief to the AEA Receptionist as required.
- Lawn care and landscape maintenance, including, but not limited to, mowing, edging, and weeding, as directed.
- Perform all other tasks consistent with these essential duties and responsibilities as assigned, which could include performing duties off site at AEA functions and events.
Qualifications/Requirements:
An individual should have the qualifications identified below to perform the essential functions of this position.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Background clearance
- Valid Alabama driver's license and insurable driving record through our fleet insurance carrier.
- Experience in custodial work
- Ability to use custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals
- Ability to follow OSHA standards relating to assignment
- Effective oral communication skills
- Ability to work on assigned tasks independently.
- Basic knowledge in areas of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, heating, ventilating, and roofing.
- State of Alabama certification in one or more categories provided in item nine (9) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to list at least 100 pounds.
- Stand and walk a majority of each day
- Speak clearly and consistently on the phone
- Stoop, kneel, bend, reach, and turn frequently
- Work in elements of weather, including extreme temperatures, occasionally.
