Members Gather in Orange Beach for Administrator and Postsecondary Conferences

On February 6-7, 2026, members of AEA’s Administrator and Postsecondary Divisions gathered for their respective division conferences. These conferences provided attendees the opportunity to network with one another as they heard from engaging speakers and learned more about topics specific to their divisions.

The Administrator Conference, named AdminiCon: Continuing the Experience of Visionary Leadership, featured sessions on leadership traits, stress management, data literacy, building effective learning communities, and more. These sessions allowed participants to earn Alabama Principal Leadership Development System (APLDS) clock hours in each of its five leadership standards.

During the conference luncheon, the Administrator Division acknowledged its division award recipients. Dr. Mark Sullivan, Birmingham City Schools, was named the Outstanding Superintendent of the Year, and Kristen Dial-Williams, Selma City Schools, was named the Outstanding Central Office Administrator of the Year. The Outstanding Principal of the Year Award was given to Kelia Browder, Bullock County Schools, and the Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year Award was given to Dr. Mashika Tempero Culliver, Selma City Schools.

Postsecondary members also heard from expert presenters, attending sessions on retirement, employment law, accessibility laws, and AEA membership. Valerie McCombs, an instructional technology specialist at Jefferson State Community College, was unable to attend this year’s conference, but has been named the Postsecondary Division’s Outstanding Postsecondary Member of the Year.

Congratulations to our award recipients, and thank you to everyone who spent their weekend with us in Orange Beach! Click the link below to access the photo gallery for both conferences and find out more about each conference in the next issue of the Alabama School Journal.
