The Education Support Professionals Division of the Alabama Education Association hosted its statewide conference Feb. 20–22, 2026, in Mobile, Alabama. The theme was “Kickin’ Up Excellence: Stepping Boldly into Our ESP Future.”
ESP Division President Kecia Lambert welcomed members during Friday evening’s opening session. Attendees also heard remarks from AEA President Bridgette Massey Johnson and AEA Associate Executive Director Theron Stokes. AEA Assistant Executive Director for Field Services Darryl Sinkfield delivered closing remarks. Following the general session, members attended a “Sneaker Soiree” reception featuring a Sneaker Showdown competition. The event provided opportunities for networking and fellowship.
On Saturday, participants selected from breakout sessions focused on mental wellness, career advancement, and best practices for student success. A brunch followed, allowing members to share insights and strategies from the sessions.
The second general session included welcome remarks from ESP Board Vice President I. Mia Ward and comments from AEA Executive Director Amy Marlowe. Keynote speaker Candice Chandler-Ortiz of the Birmingham Education Association encouraged attendees to step boldly into the future of their careers and personal lives.
During the conference luncheon, the ESP Division presented its 2025 Division Awards. Honorees included Stephanie Craig-Taylor, Shining Star Award; Sandra Cunningham, Doris Strode Champion Award; Ryan Alford, Sherry Tucker Leadership Award; and Wallace C. Barclay Sr., Pioneer Award.
The conference concluded with a legislative update from Dr. Allison King, AEA government relations manager. Members also heard additional remarks from Sinkfield and Lambert before returning to their schools. The weekend highlighted professional learning, leadership, and recognition of excellence among ESP members. Plans are underway for next year’s conference.
