Educators Strengthen Their Skills at the 2025 MLT Conference

Over the weekend, educators from every corner of the state gathered in beautiful Orange Beach, Alabama, for the 2025 Minority Leadership Training (MLT) Conference. Upon their arrival on Friday, attendees heard from former AEA Associate Executive Secretary Dr. Joe L. Reed during the opening session. He shared an inspiring message about our Association's strength and bright future before handing out copies of his book, the "History of the Alabama State Teachers Association." Afterwards, a panel of member leaders took the stage to discuss Association involvement at the local level. The evening wrapped up with a "Boots on the Ground" western-themed reception featuring good food and even better company as attendees networked with peers from various school systems.

Saturday's leadership development sessions covered topics such as parliamentary procedure, implicit bias, youth mental health, retirement, the Alabama Teacher Observation Tool (ATOT), and more. The day ended with a general session and a keynote address by Anthony Sanders, the 2025 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year, who highlighted the importance of nurturing the mind, body, and soul on the path to becoming an effective leader. Participants also practiced debating resolutions during a mock delegate assembly.

The weekend concluded with sessions on social justice, artificial intelligence (AI), emotional intelligence, communicating clearly, and social media best practices on Sunday. These sessions aimed to enhance leadership skills, introduce new tools, and review important aspects of the education profession.

This development and networking opportunity gave conference attendees the chance to learn from education leaders and each other, bringing back valuable insights to their schools.
