The Alabama Education Retirees Association (AERA) is the retired division of AEA.  AERA is made up of 76 local units which are dividided into ten districts. AERA area coordinators and staff stand ready to assist with specific retiree issues and can present programs on retirement for local associations. Membership in the Alabama Education Retirees Association, Inc. (AERA), is open to anyone who receives retirement benefits from the Teachers’ Retirement System of Alabama. Currently, AERA has over 25,000 members.

 

Each AERA district elects a district director who serves on the Board of Directors for a two-year term. Members also elect a state president and other state officers every two years. In addition, six Area Coordinators are appointed by the executive director as part-time employees to provide assistance to the local units and to recruit new members.
